Springwatch with Nordic Walking

As the BBC's famous Springwatch programme returns to our TVs this week, it's worth knowing that a lot of Nature can be seen on your doorstep.

I lead Nordic Walks in Bushy Park in the London Borough of Richmond.  With the onset of lighter nights, we walk in the evenings, when the park is almost empty and the setting sun gives a different light on familiar scenes.
Seeing birds and animals at close quarters can not only be rewarding in itself, but also therapeutic.  Many Nordic Walkers say that they always feel better after a walk.  And, no matter how good the BBC programme is, it is surely better to be outdoors and experiencing nature first-hand.
Relaxed deer looking for easy pickings
This scene was so delightful, we stopped for a few minutes to enjoy.  It's not always a forced march!

Sadly, the next day, I saw people attracting deer to their picnic.  As they stood taking photos of the deer on their picnic rug, the deer started eating their sandwiches, including the PLASTIC BAG.  Please, if you are enjoying the park, don't allow the deer to come close.  They will become a nuisance and will endanger themselves, if not children.
Cooling off
Theses are scenes from suburban London!  All the animals are wild, although it's fair to say they are accustomed to humans in proximity.

These last two photos were taken in Home Park, which is always quiet, even though the entrance is only a few yards from the busy Kingston-upon-Thames shopping centre.

May blossoms and births

Nordic Walkers have recently enjoyed the copious tree blossoms, and the sight of much new birdlife.

As a bonus to the regular exercise that Nordic Walkers enjoy, Spring has provided a beautiful backdrop to many walks.  It is the sights and sounds that people experience that makes Nordic Walking so rewarding.

I was also lucky enough to have a short break on the Island of Arran in Scotland recently.  Arran is ideal for outdoor activity, especially walking and my Nordic Walking poles helped me achieve new heights.

North Arran
You can also see a great deal of wildlife on Arran - some of it behaving a bit unusually.  I had heard of badgers killing hens (there are no foxes), and in Lochranza deer sometimes can be seen cooling off in the sea.

Wherever or whenever you wish to exercise, Nordic Walking can be suitable for you.  It is an all-over workout, ideal for improving fitness, or providing a healthier walk.

Enjoying the sights and sounds of Spring just add an extra bonus to your exercise.  For more details of walks in the Borough of Richmond area, please phone or email me,
